Pregnancy

Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Petite Physio offers a comprehensive plan of care to guide you through pregnancy and postpartum recovery. During your pregnancy, we can work together to address any musculo-skeletal issues that arise while your body changes. We can treat common aches and pains such as low back pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction, upper back and neck pain, and sciatica. As you progress closer to your due date, we can train in birth prep mobility and movements to get your body ready for delivery. Developing a plan for early post-partum care and recovery is an important goal for pregnancy physical therapy as well.

Petite Physio is excited to offer at home postpartum physical therapist visits. Dr. Castell believes all mothers should have access to physical therapy after birth, allowing for a better postpartum experience and healing immediately and long term. Leaving the house with a newborn can feel daunting and stressful. Caring for a new baby while managing home life, navigating your own recovery, and possibly preparing to return to work can be overwhelming. Petite Physio wants to help by bringing healing to you in your home. Our initial assessment can begin as soon as 2-4 weeks postpartum based upon your needs and recovery. A few areas of focus in your customized plan of care to include:

  • Movement and posture: An assessment to assist in your healing from birth and common injuries with caring for a newborn. This might include suggestions for perineal tearing care, c-section scar management, gentle abdominal bracing or other healing recommendations.

  • Manual therapy: We offer many postpartum safe hands-on techniques that can attend to early aches and pains as you adjust to your new lifestyle as a mom.

  • Recovery plan: There are many safe and effective exercises that you can begin early in the postpartum time frame that will assist with your recovery. During our visits, moms often learn how to reconnect to their diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor with simple exercises and movements.

Dry Needling

Dr. Katy Castell specializes in Dry Needling, a technique that can help alleviate muscular pain and dysfunction. Dry Needling has been shown to provide quick and lasting relief for a wide range of conditions including back pain, headaches, muscle spasms, joint pain, etc. This technique involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific areas of your muscles to relieve tension and pain. Many patients find it to be a highly effective way to manage pain and get back to doing the activities they love.
